Yorkshire Branch Golf Day
Rudding Park was the venue again for this annual event.
Following last year’s abandoned competition, when heavy rain stopped play and the waterlogged course was closed after 11 holes, there were many frantic phone calls this year as players saw the heavens open at 10am on the morning of the competition.
The organisers assured everyone not to panic and tee off times were kept to, although rain that fell was enough to cancel the one-day test at Headingley, just a few miles away. Three holes later and the clouds blew away and the rest of the day was played in fantastic sunshine.
The ten teams were led out by our National Chairman Phil Laycock and everyone enjoyed the well maintained course.
After a period of networking, a quality dinner, prizes were awarded. The individual winning score was amazing. Phil Laycock won this after which he stated he’d played the best round of golf ever (amidst the usual jokes about sombreros) and also received the combined team prize for Laycock Williams and Kier. Andrew Coates from Robinson Design Ltd was runner up.
Congratulations to Phil and thanks to everyone who supported the event. Thanks also to Martin Brackstone for organising the day even though he was unable to attend due to work commitments. The event was most successful and it was agreed to hold it again next year.
